"Chill and relax and don't make things so complicated"
The last days of 2016
Soon we are about to enter the year of 2017, and during the very last days of 2016 we want to take the opportunity to reflect a minute on our fabulous New York Wedding! Since we arrived in Sweden a few weeks ago we haven’t been able to grasp it all or to wrap our heads around all great memories and impressions from the days. Digesting so many happy and joyful memories is not an easy thing. All the wonderful memories from the marvellous days we spent together in New York, we will forever keep close to our hearts! And as Mats and I use to say: “It’s the people who does it! Food and drinks helps creating the atmosphere, but the people does it!” In this case, the People are You!
First of all we would like to Thank You for being there with us and for making our Wedding-days the most memorable days of our lives! Each and everything in New York was by far beyond what we could ever expect! Thank you so much for sharing your love, your time and your passion with us and making the Wedding-days a true blast!
We know that all of you highly appreciated the days we spent together, you have been so generous letting us know that you enjoyed every minute of the Wedding-days and your New York stay. Many of you have suggested that we should all meet again for a Reunion. That is a great idea! Let us give it a thought and come back to you all regarding when and where. The idea to have a Follow-up-Wedding-Blast-Reunion is truly great, but we need at least one year to just surf on all the beautiful memories from the Wedding-days, and then we will start to plan for the Reunion. We have also heard that so many of you have cherished and appreciated the wedding guests, letting us know that “all the guests were really fun and great people”. Yes of course, that we knew already! All of you are great personalities, sincere at heart and the best friend one could ever have! Some of you have met before the wedding, and some of you have made new friendships from the wedding, that’s the way life should be.
Since we own the domain address december-wedding.se it means that we will keep on using the website as a platform for wedding memories and communication. Along 2017 we will update the website approximately once a month, giving you some reflections, photos, memories or something else of interest. Let’s see what we will do, perhaps a countdown for the Reunion ha ha :D
Once again from the depth of our hearts – Thank you so much for being there with us, sharing your love and passion for our wedding! We are truly greatful that you were there sharing the amazing days with us!
Lots of love from Ann & Mats

Wednesday the 30th of November,
Three days to go to Church!
Today a lot of people are flying in to New York. Most welcome all of you! We are waiting for you!
Right now we just want you to know that Mats and I will have a beer at Harlem Tavern tonight. If you want to stop by, you know that we will be there from 9 pm. We do however understand that some of you are probably so tired and about to faint from the flight, so please don't feel that we urge you to stop by [116th street, Frederick Douglass Blvd/8th Avenue].
Elvis has entered the building!

Tuesday the 29th of November,
Four days to go to Church!
Today I went to Mel's where we all meet up on Friday, and I realized that next to Mel's is
the Westside Market! A grocery store open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! They have the
most delicious food you can ever imagine! Except for really fresh fruits and vegetables, what do you
say about organic juices, pecan pie, sweet potatoe pie, pumpkin pie, cheese, olives, everything!
Plus that they serve hot delicious food for take-away!
And yes of course...here are some pics from Mel's!
And here some pics from Harlem Tavern!

Cyber Monday the 28th of November,
Five days to go!
Today the first guests are arriving in Manhattan! Yeah! Welcome! I'm waiting with my arms wide open!
On Tuesday Mr Himself is arriving, and on Wednesday a whole bunch of guests are flying in, I can’t wait to see you all!
The last 4 guests will arrive on Friday, and we really hope you can make it to Mel’s by 6 pm. However, we will be there
waiting for you, and there will be burgers and beers waiting for you! Don’t worry, but hurry!
So right now we have come to the moment when it’s ‘bout time for Quiz.
Countdown-Quiz!
Since we started the Countdown on the webpage, we have along the process included a total number of 9 different Movie References among the posts. Which movie reference have you already noticed, and which can you spot by reading through all the countdown-posts all over from start? Have you noticed the references at all?
Yes, there are since the Countdown started the 3rd of November, references to 9 American blockbuster movies, and we urge you to read through all the Countdown-posts below in order to identify all the references. There are two reasons for this: first of all you do the necessary rehearsal when it comes to tips about what to pack, transfer-info, where to eat in NYC, what to see and so on, in order to do the last minute preparation for your journey (if you right now are experiencing the feeling of being a student, yes you're right, it’s a teacher writing, emphasizing the importance of rehearsal). And the second reason for going through all the Countdown-posts, is that the Winner of the Countdown-Quiz will win a Fabulous-Glamorous-Memory for life-Long lasting-Thingisch, which you can’t live without having done Manhattan! Not to mention the glory and honor being a Winner of the Countdown-Quiz, of course!
The prize is hidden in the brown bag below, and it’s waiting for you just to grab it! Go to the mattresses!
Happy hunting for movie references! Go through all the Countdown posts below and win the totally amazing prize!

Sunday the 27th of November,
Six days to go!
Today I have been at the Church, just to check it out and to try to visualize it all.
This is the corner of 48th street and 5th Avenue, you can see the
Swedish flag waiving outside the Church building
The entrance/library of the Church
The small shop next to the library
The Chapel
A stone's throw away from Church, you find "The Crossroads of the World",
Times square
After Church I went buying some Christmas cards
Now I'm in a rush to meet Jamie at Applebee's on 125th street, so sorry no more updates from today.
Cheers and love from Harlem!

Saturday the 26th of November,
ONE WEEK TO GO!
Yes, I’m in Harlem, and so will YOU be soon! Much welcome! Harlem awaits you!
After a long flight, I’m tired and my head is spinning, but I just want to say that
Mats and I are really and truly so happy to welcome You to our wedding, in just ONE week!
My Swedish cell number is closed during my days in NY.
For urgent matters you can reach me at +1-718 690 0733.
Some random pics from the afternoon today:
The local supermarket around the corner, Fine Fare 116th St, Lenox Ave. I recommend it!
The local wine shop around the corner, 119th St, Lenox Ave.
And yes, they deliver at your door. Within one hour from the moment
you placed the order, for 20 dollars only!
A San Francisco street food restaurant next door, with the name
Sexy Taco Dirty Cash. Most probably a must-eat, or at least a must-see,
but I'll wait to dig into it until Mats has arrived. This experience we must share!
And Yes, I was surprised when I arrived at the Guesthouse today seeing
Välkommen. It turned out that the owner's husband is from Skåne. Hepp!
Yeah, I feel välkommen! And I hope you'll do as well when you arrive on Manhattan!
Much Välkommen each and every one of you!

Friday the 25th of November,
8 days to go!
"Never miss an opportunity to recycle!" Remember?
You remember I told you earlier about my old curtains and tablecloth that went to the dressmaker?
So what did actually happened to the old fabric? Well, here we invite you to have a glimpse, so far only a little tiny glimpse
of our wedding clothes hidden under the plastic cover. But you will see us in Church wearing the old curtains, and the Flower
girls all dressed in old tablecloths. The plastic cover is by the way recycled oilcloth, the dressmaker has created that too.
The dumped trash has nearly turned into something that you can call royale, well not royale but odd at least.
Royale, that’s what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris, according to Vincent.
My estimated arrival time in New York is TODAY Friday 13.35 pm local time!
And yesterday I got the sweetest mail from New York saying “Harlem awaits you!” Yeah! Couldn’t be better!
Cheers!

Thursday the 24th of November,
9 days to go!
New York is a city of bars and cocktails. There are, no surprise, several cocktails with a special New York connection.
Today we'll mention a few of them.
First up is Long Island Iced Tea, which is a classic drink. Surprisingly, the recipe is not as old as you might think.
Named after the New York borough of Long Island, where it was invented in 1972, it's one of those "supercocktails"
that contain vast amounts of alcohol, but that still don't taste like it does. So what goes into a Long Island Iced Tea,
then? Well, recipes may vary a bit, but the most common ingredients are rum, vodka, triple sec, gin and tequila.
Add to that a dash of lemon juice and a dash of Coke, and serve with lots of ice and a twist of lemon peel.
Another rather obvious New York cocktail is the Manhattan - a drink with a very adult flavor to it, as it's rather bitter and
not at all sweet. It's one of the oldest modern cocktails, dating back to the 1800's, and is made with rye Whiskey,
red vermouth and Angostura bitters.
Our third cocktail for today is an iconic drink that was seen a lot in the TV series Sex and the City (for havens sake please
note that Ann has never seen this TV series), The Cosmopolitan, which is a mix of vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and
lime. It's best served at one of those fancy cocktail parties where people drink colorful drinks in the summer. A well-mixed
Cosmo strikes a sweet spot between sweet and sour flavors, and therefore is a cocktail that works for most people's tastebuds.
But Mats, why don't you mention our favorite cocktail, the Margarita!? Not that you ever ordered it when I was
working at the pub way back, but it's still the cocktail you make better than any award winning bartenders on earth!
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, he walks into MY bar. And that's where our story begins.
Let's have some Margaritas when we meet over there!

Wednesday the 23rd of November,
10 days to go!
War... War never changes.
Mats again: Fifteen years ago, New York and Washington DC were struck by the deadliest terrorist attacks in modern history.
Those attacks killed more than three thousand people, and the aftermath of the bloodshed on that September day
still echoes to this day, a decade and a half later.
When you are in New York, it is highly recommended to go to the 9/11 Memorial site. It's a place where people come
to pay their respect to the heroes of the NYPD, the NYFD, the first responders and the victims of the attacks.
Having been in New York just a month before the attacks in 2001, I went to the Memorial in 2012, to see it for myself.
To comprehend that all those people, and the mighty World Trade Center towers were no longer there. I knew since more
than a decade that they were gone, but it's a different sense when you have been there before the terrorists struck, and go
there and see the site transformed.
The Memorial site is built around two waterfalls where the twin towers stood, and the US flag waves over the site. Everyone
who was alive on that day will remember for the rest of their lives where they were when they heard about the attacks.
The world remembers. New York remembers.

Tuesday the 22nd of November,
11 days to go!
Mats here - again. In these last few days before we depart for our wedding, we are proud to present one of my
dearest friends and allies: Thomas, and his lovely wife Rose-Marie.
Thomas and I have emptied bars in Budapest and Malta, sold IT services around the world and have had
tremendous amounts of fun since we got to know each other 18 years ago.
We are so happy that Thomas and Rose-Marie are joining us in New York!
Check out Guest Presentations to know more about them!
~~~
Monday the 21st of November,
12 days to go!
Mats here again. Today I am going to mention three of my favorite works of fiction that are set in New York.
Let's start off with a book: Warday from 1984 by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka. This is a "mockumentary" book
about a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. It's a great book, and a must-read for those who
enjoy the alternate history genre.
My second cultural pick is a computer game: The Division, which was published in march 2016. The game plays out in
a New York which is suffering from the aftermath of a bioterrorism event sometime in the near future. The graphics of
this game are absolutely stunning, and the maps are so accurate, you can actually learn your way around lower
Manhattan by playing the game.
The third and last item for today is a movie: The Day After Tomorrow, which is a fictional thriller story on the subject of
climate change. As the world rapidly turns towards a new ice age, we find the protagonists of the movie huddled up taking
shelter in the New York Public Library.
~~~
Sunday the 20th of November,
13 days to go!
Mats here again. So, in less than two weeks, we leave our lovely country home and head for the Big Apple.
We will of course miss a lot of things when we go to the big city, but one of the things I will miss the most is my
daily encounters with wildlife.
Out in the sticks where we live, I see wild boars, several types of deer and predatory birds every day. But did you know
that there actually is quite a bit of wildlife in NYC?
Yes, that is true. Take a look at a map of Manhattan. In the middle of it all, there's the green oasis that is the lungs of the
city - Central Park, and the park is big. Really big. Add to that dozens of small to medium-sized parks, and there actually
is room for quite a few species of animals right there in the middle of the world's busiest city.
In the parks, there are populations of raccoons, skunks, foxes and even coyotes. For you Swedes, a coyote is a kind of
dog-wolf which is bigger than a fox but smaller than a wolf. And yes, they're completely harmless to humans. In fact, they
do the city a great service by having rats as the main course on their menus.
By the way, I can tell you, having encountered a skunk in my friend's garden in Santa Barbara in 2014, you can tell that
it's a skunk. The smell is of something beyond death, way past rotting-zombie-flesh-kinda stench. If there's a skunk nearby,
and it's pissed off, you will know where the phrase "pissed off" came from. Cheers!
Coyote. Harmless to humans.
Raccoon. Cute, but them damn fuckers have rabies.
Skunk. Smells like the shit has hit the fan. Litterally.
Pictures are released as public domain or under the Creative Commons license.

Saturday the 19th of November,
14 days to go!
Mats at the keyboard: While in New York, there are plenty of museums that are well worth visiting. One personal favorite for me
is the AMNH, the American Museum of Natural History, which occupies four city blocks, and which has been around for more than a century. It’s truly an amazing place, and I try to go there every time I am in New York.
Another favorite of mine is the USS Intrepid museum. Intrepid is an old, distinguished aircraft carrier turned into a museum
on the west side of Manhattan, just a kilometer away from 42nd st and Times Square. Intrepid has some really amazing displays: How about a genuine A-12 Oxcart spyplane from the days of the Cold War? Or Enterprise, the training vehicle used for glider training of the shuttle pilots…?
To be fair, the Los Angeles Science Center beats Intrepid on both these accounts, as their space shuttle has been to space, and their A-12 is the super-rare two-seater version, however, Intrepid still wins, since their display of iconic aircraft spans many decades of air warfare.
Intrepid is therefore a must-see for anyone who likes aircraft, ships, spacecraft and who is a genuine nerd, like I am.
Therefore, I have decided to go there after the brunch on the sunday, after the wedding.
If you want to join, come along on Sunday the 4th of December!
~~~
Friday the 18th of November,
15 days to go!
Idag är det fredag och då kommer vi osökt in på ämnet
Kontemplera mera
Vid det här laget har du hunnit skaffa dig koll på allt som har att göra med var och hur och vilket Metrokort du
ska köpa samt hur allt fungerar med tunnelbana, buss och taxi i New York. Detta har du redan läst om på Erics hemsida.
Plus att du vet att det tar cirka en minut att gå en gata på Manhattan, ska du promenera 15 gator tar det alltså en kvart.
Men ett tips som du säkert inte känner till apropå transport på Manhattan är fenomenet Buss-utan-stress, eller som
det också kallas Meditations-buss, vilket är lite av ett signum för just Manhattan. Buss-utan-stress kan i princip alla
människor göra (och bör göra) och det gör sig bäst när du har hamnat i den där situationen då du har några timmar över,
du är smått förvirrad över alla intryck, du känner dig en aning handlingsförlamad men samtidigt rastlös, och du vet inte vad
du vill se eller vad du vill göra eller vart du ska ta vägen, och klockan är rusningstid i trafiken. Då är det dags att samla
tankarna och att kontemplera en smula. Det är dags att åka buss. Du kan åka med vilken buss som helst som kör på
avenyerna när det är dags för denna övning (norr- eller södergående spelar ingen roll, med fördel åker du både upp och ner).
Du kliver helt enkelt på en buss, slår dig ner, sätter dig så bekvämt du bara kan, och plockar fram din kaffe-termos.
Du avnjuter ditt kaffe i sakta, mycket sakta gemak längs avenyn, för här går det inte undan, tempo trankil är takten. Här
sitter du fint och avslappnat i lugn och ro, du har inga tider att passa och du har ingen särskild destination att nå. Du bara
är och du vegeterar, du landar och grundar, sorterar tankarna, och du börjar se bilden av att du liksom alla andra människor
här på jorden är en del av en större helhet, utan att bussen har rört sig så många meter trots att du klev på för 20 minuter sen.
Du tittar ut genom fönstret och du ser dig lite omkring, du får syn på några ungdomar som spelar boll, en affär
som säljer plastbaljor eller en barberarsalong helt inredd i lila och guld, du snickesnackar lite med grannen på sätet
bredvid, och för första gången i ditt liv inser du att det är ganska trevligt att åka buss, trots att du är på ungefär samma plats
som du var för 45 minuter sedan. Kanske nickar du till en liten stund, det gör ingenting för allt är
under kontroll och bussen har troligen inte förflyttat sig mer än en gata under den kvarten du har sovit.
När du sedan ska åka tillbaka, tar du bara bussen i motsatt riktning. Och så väntar ytterligare ett pass Meditations-buss,
med nya människor och nya upplevelser på tillbakavägen, i samma obekymrade och nästan stillastående takt. Detta är
Buss-utan-stress. Billigt, enkelt och stressreducerande, du är aktiv på samma gång som du ändå inte gör så mycket annat
än att du observerar och absorberar din omgivning. Framför allt är det en väldigt trevlig och underhållande aktivitet samtidigt
som det ger dig en stunds sinnesfrid och lite andra bilder för hjärnan att arbeta med, mitt i ett för övrigt hysteriskt händelserikt,
överväldigande och intensivt neonblinkande Manhattan, där du lätt förlorar fotfästet.
Har du nu tagit semester och unnar dig några dagars ledighet, då ska du inte bara flänga och fara och stressa mellan
attraktioner och bröllop, dundra fram i tunnelbanan och åka expresshiss upp och ner i skyskrapor, allt med blodsmak
i munnen och begynnande nackspärr. Kosta på dig lite Buss-utan-stress, ett alternativt sätt att se och uppleva New York,
utan panik i blicken och med lugnet och hälsan i behåll.
Fenomenet Buss-MED-stress är också ett signum för Manhattan, det inträffar varje gång du har en tid att passa och du
väljer buss som färdmedel, inte alls lika roligt som Buss-utan-stress.
Buss och kram från oss!
Wednesday the 16th of November,
17 days to go!
1. Why are you getting married in New York, of all places?
Well you see our first hand choice was actually the Church of Sweden in Beirut, Lebanon, but then we realized
that no one will show up, because of security reasons. So we decided to go for NY!
2. What will be your last name after the wedding?
There are tons of beautiful names out there, we don’t know which to pick! Let’s see, we will deal with it when
we get back to Sweden after the wedding. And of course, you will be the first to know!
3. For how long time will the Wedding Cermony go on?
It will take approximately 30 minutes. And after the ceremony we will all have a glass of
bubbly drinks and snacks in the Church house.
4. How long time will it take to go from the Church to Yatenga, the place for the Wedding Dinner?
If you go straight by taxi it will take 30-40 minutes, approximately. If you go by bus it will take you 2,5 days to reach
Yatenga. If you go by subway, you start by walking from Church (5 east, 48th street) to the station at Rockefeller Center.
Jump on a train heading north (B or D). Jump of at 125th street and walk for 15 minutes, or take a taxi to Yatenga the last part.
All in all it will take approximately 40 minutes.
5. I have seen something about that the Church wants us to donate Swedish coffee and Ahlgrens bilar,
what’s that all about?
Yes, that’s correct! If you want to bring Svenskrostat bryggkaffe and Ahlgrens bilar from Sweden, and donate to the Church, they will be really happy! It’s hard to get this yummie stuff in New York! You can deliver it to the Church after the Wedding Ceremony, or you can stop by the Church any day you like.
6. Are there lots of things to plan for and to organize for the Wedding, before you go to New York?
Mats: No, not at all, nothing.
Ann: Eah Yes, there’s a few things to arrange when it comes to the wedding, not least all the paper work
and all the communication with various different people and places. On the other hand it’s really a fun and most
often a hilarious process, so I enjoy every minute of it!
7. Who will take care of your beautiful cats Mosse and Bessy when you are away?
We are so happy to know that they are in the best hands ever, at Ronjas place in Lund! And we are so thankful to
Ronja for taking care of our dear ones! When we get back home we will start the Christmas decorations,
and Mosse will be Santa Claus. He has already put the suit on.
"Ann, don't do this sh*t to the poor cat! You know that you really hate when people are putting stupid costumes on their pets!"
I know, but it was only on for two minutes...
8. So, how's life, apart for the Wedding and all the things around that?
Mats: Fine, I'm mostly at work. The Wedding will come later, and we'll deal with the details later on. Too early to say or do anything.
Ann: zzZ zzZ zzZ
Tuesday the 15th of November,
18 days to go!
What’s the weather like on your planet?
Find out about the weather on Manhattan here,
or read about the "world’s most downloaded weather app" here.
If it’s cold and windy outside, step into Radio City Music Hall and watch the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Show!
It’s a must-see, and Yes it’s spectacular!
Or just study the beautiful Art Deco lobby at the entrance of Radio City Music Hall.
Or why not make a visit to the New York Public Library on a rainy day, and get yourself a library card, key ring-style.
And then keep bragging to the world that you have a NYPL-library card. People will get impressed, trust me,
I know it for a fact! I have been bragging about it for years, and I still do. I know you are impressed, right!?
However, if you're really into getting a library card, don't forget to bring a document that verifies your
New York-address. You see, people who can't show a document which proofs that they have an address,
will not get a library card. It means that so many people that really could use the library for so many reasons,
not only to read newspapers, magazines and books, and keeping warm during the winter time, will never get a library card!
I strongly advice you to raise this issue to the library staff when you're there, and advocate for the fact
that ALL people should have full access to the library! It’s a hell of a democratic problem when people who
doesn't have money, income, or an established position in the society, aren't getting full access to all the services
at the library (public service!). And it’s all just because of the fact that they can’t show proof of an address!
There are mega-zillions of people in New York who don't have an address! However, don't let all this prevent you from
making a visit to the library - on the contrary! Go there and enjoy, and do your civic duty at the same time!
So, what's the weather like on your planet?
Monday the 14th of November,
19 days to go!
Transfer från flygplatsen till Manhattan
Ska du ta taxi, shuttlebuss eller tåg? Eller ska du göra som Ann brukar göra: Sök efter de resenärer som ser mest
förvirrade ut och som inte vet hur de ska ta sig till Manhattan från flygplatsen, och fråga om ni ska dela en taxi. Ett tips
som aldrig sviker! Dels får du ett roligt resesällskap in till Manhattan (människor som tror de är lost och sedan upptäcker
att allt ordnar sig skrattar ofta högt när stressen lagt sig), och dels hjälper du en vän i nöd samt att du får dollar över
så att du kan gå och äta indiskt på Curry in a Hurry, på 28e gatan, Lexington Ave (du hittar många indiska
restauranger och butiker med indiska delikatesser på södra Lexington).
Gillar du inte indiskt tar du dig istället till den svenska krögaren Marcus Samuelssons restauranger i Harlem,
Red Rooster eller Streetbird Rotisserie, ett kycklingrosteri med hip hop och street art. Styla dock till dig
lite och jobba med swagen om du ska till Red Rooster för här kan du springa in i både Obama och Bill Clinton
som gärna minglar på the Rooster med Harlem-eliten, dvs konturstarka, profilerade och uttrycksfulla karaktärer.
På the Rooster får du alltid den absolut bästa maten och den mest arbetade coctailen. Du blir alltid serverad
med ett Million Dollar-leende som glänser i kapp med sann skönhet, accessoarer i 24 karats guld, och de
absolut mest rätt placerade tatueringarna i kombo med peruken från helvetet.
Tipset är att boka bord om du vill äta, vill du bara inom och ta en coctail så får du knö dig.
Vill du däremot ha lite mer crazy dining, trångt och lite svettigt, alltid knökat och där din Margarita serveras i pitchers
och där du får kanelsockrad sötpotatis till burgaren som avnjuts i rockabilly-dunka dunka och där dörrvakten
filosoferar över livet och en livsstil ”from paycheck to paycheck” (alltsammans upplevelser du inte vill
vara utan) då måste du bara besöka Trailer Park Lounge på 23e gatan, 8e avenyn.
Applebee’s på 125e gatan, 5e avenyn, är också ett helskönt ställe trots att det är en kedja (och har en trist hemsida),
inte alls dyrt och här träffar du de lokala karaktärerna och dricker goda och billiga coctails i takt med att guacamolen
tar dig på en himmelsfärd, endast ett stenkast ifrån legendariska Apollo Theater. Applebee’s har dessutom en app
som ger dig halva priset på mat två gånger om dagen. Och ja, jag har blivit utnämnd till Guacamole-drottning!
Den bästa guacamolen serverar du alltid med ett sting av chili, finhackad nästintill pulveriserad purjolök, vitlök, limesaft,
Thursday the 10th of November,
23 days to go!
Yesterday was a shock to the world, so let us elaborate a little bit on the theme of shock.
Have a look at Wolters World, 10 things that will shock you about New York City (9 minutes on Youtube).
And Yes, Wolter is correct, there are plenty of apps you can download to find public toilets in New York City.
Speaking of apps, have a look at Thrillist’s 17 Essential apps for life in NYC, and Time Out’s list about
the Best apps for New York City. Or why not have a look at What to do in New York City for free! Shockingly amazing!
Another shock you shall prepare for is the extra cost of tax and gratuity that will make your
restaurant bill/hotel bill/coffee shop bill/what ever-bill more expensive than you expected when you placed the order.
Be prepared, it will happen every time!
On the other hand, you don’t always need to pay full entrees at museums. There are museums in town that
practice Suggested Admission which means that you pay whatever you can afford to pay. Shocked? Cheers!
Wednesday the 9th of November,
We're speechless!
Tuesday the 8th of November,
25 days to go!
Även om vi vet att du inte saknar inspiration inför New York, vill vi tipsa om
UR Play. Kolla in kortfilmer, dokumentärer och mycket annat om New York här!
Och glöm för allt i världen inte att kolla in Time Outs lista på de 101 bästa New York-filmerna!
(Och vilken har hamnat på första plats...)
Mats och jag har flera personliga favoritfilmer, varav några relaterade till New York.
Toppfilmen i alla kategorier är såklart Martin Scorseses Taxi Driver från 1976 med
Robert de Niro och Jodie Foster. Måste ses, och kan ses flera gånger!
Vi är däremot inga fan av Woody Allen, men om du verkligen vill grotta ner dig i New York-miljöer, då ska du se hans filmer. Vill du däremot grotta ner dig i Robert de Niro, då vill vi tipsa om filmerna Deer Hunter från 1978 (du kan inte leva ett liv utan att ha sett denna film!), eller varför inte Quentin Tarantinos Jackie Brown från 1997 (en av Anns absoluta Topp-10 och Tarantinos skarpaste och snyggaste film!). En annan toppfilm med de Niro (bortsett från Gudfadern II från 1974 som bara är en självklarhet att du redan har sett) är Heat från 1995 (även med Al Pacino och Val Killmer, du kommer väl ihåg Iceman från Top Gun?). Tyvärr gillade dock varken jag eller Mats The Score (2001) med de Niro, där även Edward Norton och Marlon Brando spelade, men vi såg filmen i New York första gången vi var där tillsammans 2001. På tal om Edward Norton så utgår vi ifrån att du bara älskar Fight Club från 1999 (en av våra topp-10!), där Brad Pitt gör Tyler Durden. Och på tal om Brad Pitt, så kommer vi till en annan toppfilm som vi bara inte kan släppa vind för våg: nämligen Höstlegender från 1994, Legends of the Fall, där även Anthony Hopkins medverkar. Ja, nu kom vi lite ifrån New York, men det gör ingenting för vi ska ju alla snart dit!!
Monday the 7th of November,
26 days to go!
Since I don’t plan to give any speech at the wedding dinner, and since we are having a wedding-
website, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to write a few lines about what Mats means to me.
A surprise to you Mats!
27 days to go!
Saturday the 3rd of December we will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. at
Yatenga on 133rd/134th street, 7th Av (Adam Clayton Powell Blvd).
Meet the owner of Yatenga and Shrine, Sivan Baron Oeudraogo,
and listen to what she have to say about the places and about Harlem.
See an interview with Sivan here (3 minutes on Youtube), plus get to know a little bit more about
Yatenga and Shrine! Did you know that Yatenga is the capital of Burkina Faso?
New York, you make it impossible for me not to love you!
Check in and chill out!
Viktiga listan för packnördar
Förbered dig med UDs app Resklar, eller någon av de andra tusen rese-appar du hittar i din App Store eller på nätet.
Angående incheckning och handbagage hälsar Mats att kavaj/jacka/tröja med många fickor är praktiskt i
säkerhetskontrollen. Byxor som inte behöver bälte, och skor som inte behöver knytas är också tidssparande.
Han tillägger "om du flyger fu**ing Norwegian behövs ett ombyte av underkläder, strumpor och tröja i hand-
bagaget". Tror att han tänker på sin senaste flight till Boston med Norwegian då hans bagage stod kvar på
Kastrup under alla fyra konferensdagarna...
Men vem ringde Kastrup och Oslo 742 gånger för att lokalisera bagaget under tiden Mats var i Boston?
Om du köpte din resväska 1987 och vid den tiden fyllde i din adress på taggen, då kan det vara
en god idé att kolla adresstaggen så att den är uppdaterad med din nuvarande adress.
Just saying...note to self.
30 days to go!
Let us start the countdown by setting the framework for the Wedding Days in NYC
The year of 1999, Mats and I started hanging out together during the spring. Immediately when we met,
we decided to go to Goa in India and celebrate the Millennium New Year’s Eve at Calangute Beach.
The picture below is from Goa, and with the woman laying down on the quilts and table cloths while she
is working during the busiest hours and days of the year trying to sell all the items, the picture is sending
one very important message in life, a message which in Goa is called Susegad. It means "Chill, take it
easy, relax. Don’t bother about conventions and norms, just go with the flow and enjoy life while you can.”
The framework of the wedding is the Susegad!
Let us chill, enjoy and have a great time together in NYC!
See you soon, lots of love from Ann & Mats
The countdown has begun!
